Vitamin and Mineral Supplements Offer Early Protection for Children

By age 25, approximately half of all women in the United States have experienced at least one birth, and approximately 85 percent of all women have given birth by age 44 years.
The theories that healthy babies start before conception and develop throughout pregnancy are gaining credibility with a recent study that supports careful dietary planning and optimal nutrient intake for women.
The case-control study published in the September issue of Cancer Epidemiology; Biomarkers & Prevention reported on maternal supplement, micronutrient, and cured meat intake during pregnancy and risk of neural tumors during childhood. The results of the study add to the evidence of a protective role for multivitamins and suggest a possible role for micronutrients early in pregnancy.
4Life Research reminds readers that a healthy diet and quality nutritional supplementation can support healthy stores of nutrients to meet a woman’s needs and that of her baby’s during pregnancy.
